An Exciting Update

It has been so long since I posted something...goodness.

Once Upon a Lifetime...

I am a third of the way through Spring semester (thank goodness, because that means Summer is coming!). I took a ballroom class during the Fall semester, and the teacher happens to be the coach of the bronze team. So when I didn't audition for team, she was able to find me and add me on the team. It went something along the lines of, "So...I kicked some girls off team because they suck. Wanna be on team?" I'm so glad I got added because it has been so much fun and I have so many friends because of it.

Now for the big news: I am getting married! Unofficially. We have a date (August 9th, just in case you were wondering) and all the unnecessary plans like what to feed people, where the reception will be, etc. I'm just waiting for him to propose. He bought the ring online and thought it would be funny to torment me by sending me a picture of the mailing box it came in. What a punk. Either way, I'm still excited.

I love life right now! Which is such a big difference from a year ago. College is so much better than high school.

Well, I should probably pay attention to my class.

Love,
Kara

A Quick Update: Miracles, Girls Nights, and Men

Once upon a lifetime....

So it's been a long time since my last post, mainly because I honestly just don't blog. But I can't sleep so I figure this is better than wasting time on facebook. So here's a few things to update:

Summer is clearly over. I'm in my 3rd week of school. It's been fun being a full time student. It's a nice change from high school, and has definitely woken me up a bit about life. My classes are amazing, and will challenge me to do my best. I had a small (major) miracle with tuition. I knew that my parents couldn't help me with tuition this year because money has been so tight, and I also knew that I couldn't come up with $2,500 in 2 months when I work a part time job for $8 an hour. So I set up a payment plan. Each payment was 30% of tuition, so it would cost me $775 per month til November. The week before the first payment was due I knew I wouldn't have the money (because I had to get a new laptop since my old one crashed and died permanently). Panicked, I said a quick prayer and headed down to the financial office and asked if my scholarship had gone through and if it could count as my payment. To my surprise, the financer told me that not only did my scholarship go through, but it had covered this month's payment, as well at $400 of the next one. All I owed for October's payment was $299, which I happily paid. I now only owe one more payment, and will have enough time to get the money needed. I walked away holding back tears I was so relieved.

I know this one isn't much of an update, but I just wanted Ashley and Callie (the most wonderful best friends I could ever ask for) to know that I love them like crazy. I know I am such a jerk and don't think before I say things and tease a lot, and I'm sorry. The fact that you guys still tolerate me is amazing. Our girls night was so much fun. Facebook stalking, popcorn, and runs to Redbox (which I forgot to return....oops) are so much fun with you two! We need to plan a sleepover though so we don't have to get Ashley home an hour late again. Whoops! ;) I love you guys! Thanks for everything you've done to reach out to me.

Next update. Mark and I ended in a rather....painful way. I won't go into detail, because it's all a blur to me, but he's now going to school in Idaho, and we've both moved on. It was hard the first few days, but to be honest, I realized how much easier life was without him and snapped out of it. I no longer had to give and give and give all my energy to make him happy. It was so hard trying to hard to make sure he had everything he needed, and get nothing in return. I would go out of my comfort zone to do things with him, and whenever I asked him to do something for me all I would get would be a snide comment about how he has to plan everything. I can't remember the last time he planned a date that didn't involve sitting on a couch and watching tv. I still think he's a wonderful guy, but I will never see him romantically again. I deserve better than that, and I never realized it til tonight when I went on a wonderful date with my friend Alex.

This leads to the story of Alex. I met him in a ballroom that I nervously registered for. The first time I saw him I thought he was gorgeous. He was a flirt, but not the cocky flirt that thinks he's the most wonderful thing to walk this planet. He was genuine and caring, but funny and sassy. We immediately became friends, and he asked me on a date on Tuesday. Since I figure no one will read this anyway, I will admit that I was extremely nervous and went to the mall and bought a new shirt (which I don't think he noticed, but who cares. I like the shirt a lot.) I fixed my hair several times during the day, and tried to make my make up look decent. He picked me up at 8:45, which was 45 minutes later than he had originally planned because he got lost. Go figure. Ha. We headed to Cold Stone, and we talked for a good 3 hours. We decided to go to Nelson's Grove, which is my favorite park and the place I go when I'm having a terrible day. Secretly, I was EXTREMELY attracted to him by this point, because of a million reasons. However, I couldn't tell how he was feeling about me until we were walking through the grass field when I asked him if I had earned a second date. "Of course!" Thinking that was all that would be said, I kept walking. But he kept going. "And this." And pulled me in and kissed me. Oh baby oh baby! Best moment of my life. You know how you read in books or in the movies the girl says that she felt like she was flying? Yeah....it's not just an author being cheesy. We then found a dry spot (since the sprinklers had been going all over the park) and laid down. There's something beyond romantic about being in my favorite place, watching the stars, and cuddling with an amazing person. We talked for another 20 minutes, then decided it was time to get me home. I honestly feel like a little girl, all giggly and smiling like crazy. I haven't been this happy in quite awhile. I know it was just one date, and from the sounds of it, he'll probably still date around with other girls, and I understand that. I'm just glad that I was the special one that got the kiss. Tonight was amazing. I honestly don't know how else to describe it. There aren't words. Thank you Alex!

I had other things to update on, but I can't remember them seeing that it's 2:30. My brain is gone. Which is why I'll probably read through this tomorrow and find a million spelling and grammar mistakes. Oh well. If you even read this far, I'm very impressed. Goodnight!

Love,
Kara

A Day With Ashley: Birthday, Packing, And Summerfest

Last Saturday (as in two days ago) I spent the day with my best friend Ashley. We got together at 2 and "face painted" at my nephew's birthday party. I say "face painted" because my sister decided to buy face crayons instead of face paint. The were like giant oil pastel crayons and it was a...new experience for us both. While we were doodling away on the kids, they started with the pinata. Now think about this for a second. Lots of little children with no sense of danger. Other little children swinging a metal bat around viciously at the paper and cardboard soccer ball. After several very close calls (and by close, I mean an inch or two closer and the kid would've wound up in the emergency room), the pinata finally broke open. All the kids got what looked like an equal share of candy until we noticed by older nephew laying on the ground, with about 80% of the pinatas candy hidden underneath him. After being scolding for hoarding the candy, my sister divided it evenly among the kids. We learned 3 things that day: Face crayoning is hard, I can't draw Spiderman, and Ashley will never allow a pinata at her kids' birthday parties.

Me painting the birthday boy

A classic example of the dangers of the pinata: 10-year-old about to swing with a clueless 5-year-old right in the path of the back swing.

Ashley and I then went over to my other sister's house to help pack up her things because she is moving next week. Take two girls with no muscle and no ability to focus and what do you get? Lots of giggling and zero progress.
Around 5:15 my mom made us go home and put "warmer clothes on". We knew she was secretly thinking that we weren't wearing enough clothing period. Okay I realize that our shorts are short, but it's summer. It's really hot. We're going to wear shorts so get over it. It's not like we're wearing booty shorts and tank tops that reveal things they shouldn't (no offense to those who enjoy that style, it's just not for us). But since we didn't want to experience the wrath of my mother, we did as we were told.
I picked Ashley back up and we met up with some of my family to watch the Summerfest parade. Turns out that my mom was right about putting on warmer clothes because it suddenly got extremely windy. And not that warm summer breeze...the freezing cold fast wind that could blow you over. We normally would've just left the parade, but my nephew (the candy hoarder) was in it with his little football team. It was so cute watching these little kids strutting in their uniforms. Too bad they had little cheerleaders with them. Gag.

Our shoes matched! Kinda...

German chocolate. Ashley liked it, but I didn't. So when I took my bite and decided it was gross, I put it back in the box. One of the kids ended up eating it. Awesome huh?

Isabel being...Isabel.

Inspired by a 1-year-old, we tried to see how many grapes we could get in my mouth. I got 6. Pretty sure the kid beat me.

Cute little Jackers (Jacki).

Preston!

What a cheeser. I love this girl.

Guy looking at his phone, yeah that's my brother-in-law. Leave it to him to be in a parade and be checking his phone.

Once the football kids had passed us, Ashley and I decided to haul our frozen butts back to the car. I dropped her off, only to have the genius idea of inviting her over to watch a movie with me an hour later. During the last 5 minutes of the movie, Ashley's mom called her and told her they were starting the Summerfest fireworks, which we didn't think would happen since it was so windy. So we booked it to a store parking lot and got there just in time for the finale. During the ride there and back, I found out how hyper Ashley gets when she's exhausted. She freaked out when the fireworks were going off, and managed to get me to bark at my sister and her boyfriend when we drove past them. Awesome.
It was a great day.
The end.

Smith Family Photos

Once upon a lifetime...

Mr. Smith is my high school counselor. He has been the counselor for 6 out of the 9 kids in my family, but has gotten to know my brother and I the best out of those 6. Joey and I have spent countless hours in his office rearranging schedules in order to earn our Associates Degree but get all the high school requirements covered as well. One day, Smith came into the photo class I t.a. (teacher's aid) in and asked me to do his family pictures. I have never done a photo shoot before, and knowing that this is a picture that people were going to put up on their wall didn't help the pressure. I don't have photo shoot so I couldn't do any of the fancy changes, but Windows Media Player let me do a limited amount of changes (black & white, sepia, saturation). I came home with a total of 336 pictures, and managed to get them down to about 118 before I gave the thumb drive to Mr. Smith. Here are a few of them:

It's a Dancer Life For Me

So...I dance. I've been on the high school company for two years. Before that, I took a few classes at the Academy of Ballet (not as great as it sounds) until 5th grade. My mom says that I stopped taking classes because we didn't have money, but just between you and me I think it's because I threw a fit before every class. I hated it. I was the family tom boy. I played soccer, beat up the boys at school, played in the sandbox, and wrestled with my brothers. Dancing was too...girly. It required wearing pink and don't even get me started on make up. Ew. But once I got to high school, I took one of the beginner dance classes, then decided to try out for the company. I'm not gonna lie, I sucked at first. I was probably the worst one on the company. Two years later...

Lil' Chillens

Once upon a lifetime....
I have the most adorable nieces and nephews, who also happen to be very photogenic. I love these kids, except in those moments when they destroy things in my room or go charging through the house yelling and screaming when I have a headache.
Isabel (aka Tornado): 2 years old

Paxton: 7 years old

Deiderik: 4 years old

Paxton with my friend (and his idol) Jed

Preston: 4 years old
Deiderik: 4 years old

A Simple Start

My name is Kara. This is my third attempt to start a blog, and figured now would be a good time to do it because I am sitting in a class and doing nothing. My best friend Ashley told me to start blogging again, which is the main reason I am doing this. I am the "T.A." or teacher's assistant for the photography class, and now that school is almost over there is nothing to grade. Mr. Cramer, the teacher, has been trying to tell the class a story for the last 30 minutes but has been unsuccessful because the class won't stop talking. I can tell he's trying not to start yelling, and I don't blame him. I'm frustrated with the class and I'm not even the teacher. Just a typical day in the classroom.
